Connected Systems

IoT and edge, in plain words: devices that measure, report and can be controlled from a distance.

The problem

When you cannot see what is happening out there

Equipment is spread across sites, someone has to drive out to check it, and faults are found only after they have caused trouble.

At a glance

Overview

We connect devices so they can report their state and be controlled from a distance. Some of the processing happens close to the device - at the edge - so the system keeps working even when the connection does not.

IoT means devices on a network that measure and act. Edge means doing the work near the device instead of far away in a data centre.

Where it fits

Connected Systems links Automation & CTS and Hardware & Machines to Software & AI: it carries the data out, and the decisions back.

Connected Systems

What we build

  1. Sensors

Measuring what matters: temperature, flow, position, state.

  2. Edge Devices

Local processing close to the equipment.

  3. Gateways

Connecting older equipment and field protocols to modern networks.

  4. Telemetry

Reliable transfer of measurements and events.

  5. Remote Monitoring

Seeing state and alarms from anywhere.

  6. Device Control

Changing settings and sending commands safely, at a distance.

Illustrative example

Honestly

Is it the right choice?

A good fit when

  • Equipment is spread across several places
  • Faults need to be seen before they cause trouble
  • Older equipment must be connected

Probably not the right choice when

  • Everything is in one room with a person present
  • The data would not be used for anything
Technical view

Devices are designed to keep working when the connection drops and to send what they collected when it returns. Remote control is limited to what is safe to do at a distance.

  • Sensors
  • Edge devices
  • Gateways
  • Telemetry
  • Field protocols such as Modbus
